The Big Logistics Diversity Challenge
First Bus North & West Yorkshire is the largest bus operator in the region. We are a leader in sustainable mobility and at the forefront of developments to create greener public transport. Our York depot is now net zero, one of the first in the country, and the only one in Yorkshire to rely solely on electric charging. Bramley in Leeds is home to the largest zero emission fleet in West Yorkshire. We employ a team of some 2,250 people across 7 depots and transport around 1.75m customers a week.
This year is the first time we have participated in the challenge. From seeing the videos and photos from previous events and reading the comments and reactions, we decided this is a great opportunity to bring together colleagues from different backgrounds and different areas of the business, who may not interact on a day-to-day basis, to share in fun experiences and find out a little about each other. First Bus is on a journey to a place where everyone is welcome, can be their true selves and succeed. We have six Inclusion Networks, covering Ethnicity, LGBTQIA+, Wellbeing, Age, Gender and Disability made up of colleagues with lived experience and or allies of the particular community, covering every role and every level. It will be interesting to meet and talk with other teams and businesses and discover ideas they have developed which we might take back into First Bus. And we’re sure there will be plenty of great stories from this day out that will last in the minds of everyone taking part.
